Man Tries to Steal a Girl Coming home From School

Police say a Marietta middle-schooler fought off a man who tried to abduct her while she waited for a morning school bus, and on Thursday an artist's rendering was released to try to catch a suspect. Advertisement The 12-year-old girl was waiting at a bus stop on Edison Street near Webster Street in the Marietta area when a middle-aged man driving a red truck asked her to get inside the truck, Greenville County Sheriff's Office Lt. Shea Smith said. When she refused, the man got out of the truck and tried to force her into the truck, Smith said. "The victim was able to fight off the man and ran back to her house and reported the incident to her mother," Smith said. On Wednesday afternoon, a sketch artist from the State Law Enforcement Division gathered details from the girl and created a rendering of a man -- who is described as white man with a mustache in his 50s and wearing a blue shirt, blue pants, tennis shoes and a baseball cap that reads "Echo Valley Dump." The vehicle involved is believed to be a red truck, possibly a single-cab Ford Ranger, Smith said. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
